Ruth is a Londoner and as a teenager attended life drawing classes at Camden Arts Centre.
She then trained and worked as a Speech and Language Therapist, moving to Leicester to work in 1976. In her 50s she took up art again, and in 2011 attained a Certificate in Art at Aarts, part of Leicester University. She also moved to work in Adult Education, running groups for adults with learning disabilities teaching communication skills through art. She firmly believes in the therapeutic benefits of art. Ruth enjoys working freely in all media and loves the vibrancy and texture of pastels and the versatility of charcoal. Her work is becoming progressively more abstract. She first exhibited at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery with Mathilda Applebaum and Hilary Nelson. The three then joined with other artists to form the small art group the upstARTs, who exhibit regularly in Leicester. Ruth is a member of Hinckley Art Society, Crownhills Art Society and Leicester Sketch Club. |
